Moon Hooch Moon Hooch full album stream

Brooklyn 3-piece Moon Hooch are doing something very fun and unique.  With 2 saxophones and a drum kit, these guys bring a genre-defying dance party with melodies that one can’t help but latch on to.  Moon Hooch was released in June of 2013.

Woven Hand Refractory Obdurate full album stream

The dark folk music produced by David Eugene Edwards (formerly of 16 Horsepower) is something to behold.  Refractory Obdurate finds him at home on hardcore label Deathwish, Inc. and receiving accompaniment from the likes of Planes Mistaken For Stars/Git Some members Chuck French and Neil Keener.  This is a heavy and driving record that uniquely makes a place for itself in the world of country and roots music.  The album was released back on April 29, 2014.

Willy Tea Taylor 4 Strings full album stream

Here’s one that I’ve been late to find.  4 Strings was released back in March of 2011.  It’s a fantastic roots/Americana record that I became aware of after reading an endorsement by the incredible Austin Lucas.

Angry Gods “Pressure Contained” and “The Mass”

Chicago sludge/hardcore act Angry Gods released their second 7” release back on March 31, 2014.  The songs were recorded by Andy Nelson of Weekend Nachos.  The songs reference giants of the genre such as Converge, Botch, Gaza, and Old Man Gloom.  The record was released by Crippled Sound and Bastard Sloth.

Trioscapes “Stab Wounds”

This is some kind of heavy progressive jazz from Greensboro, NC.  It’s not my normal thing, but the driving nature of the rhythm section keeps the listener engaged from beginning to end.  Saxophone/Flute, Drums, and Bass.  The trio features Dan Briggs of Between The Buried And Me on bass, which leads me to think that’s how they wound up releasing this sophomore release on the unlikely label for this style that is Metal Blade Records.  Digital Dream Sequence will be released on August 19, 2014.

HERS “Hold It Together” music video
Portland-based female-fronted band HERS give us an unsettling glimpse of their world in this new music video.  “Hold It Together” comes from Youth Revisited, which will hit stores on June 4, 2014.  “I am your godless woman.  I’ll be singing at your funeral.”

The Faint “Help In The Head” music video

Omaha’s electro-indie favorites are back with a new album called Doom Abuse.  The album will be released on 4/8/14 via SQE.
